The raising of boxes
The company name ‘Heveske’ (Hevet – Eske) raised boxes, describes the construction methodology
and procurement method of the range of houses that Heveske provide to their clients.
The company was established in 2015 by architects Ben Prince and Tom Black who have been friends and collaborators for many years and believe that architects have much to contribute to addressing housing need. Not only this, but that housing should afford its occupants a spacious, thermally efficient, contemporary place to call home.
Meet the team
Tom Black
Architect, BA, MArch
Tom is a fully qualified architect who graduated in 2002 having studied initially at Hull school of architecture (now Lincolnshire) and subsequently at Liverpool University. Tom established his own practice in 2011.
Tom believes passionately in finding new innovative solutions to architecture through new modularised means of constructions and collaborative models of building procurement. Tom has extensive experience of working on both commercial and residential commissions and has previously worked on high profile commissions as a project architect in commercial architectural practice.
The belief that housing provision in the UK and indeed further afield can benefit greatly from an innovative approach to production and collaborative approaches to working and that this type of innovation can help improve space standards, environmental performance and bring greater diversity to the housing market is a driving force behind the establishment of Heveske Ltd.
Ben
Architect, BA, MArch
Ben studied architecture at the University of Bath and completed his part 2 at the University of Liverpool, before working for award winning Liverpool Practice Brock Carmichael Architects, on projects such as Southport College, Liverpool Hope University, Bickershaw Zero Carbon Housing, and the Liverpool Science Park.
He set up his own practice, Prince Architects, in 2010, based in the Baltic Triangle in Liverpool. The practice has a collaborative approach to design, based on the belief that good design is not exclusive, and that a close working relationship with the client is key to achieving the most successful design solutions.
This collaborative ethos provides opportunities for innovative ways of working, both on individual schemes, as well as with other practices and designers to tackle a range of project types and sizes, and is also reflected in nature of the work with PlacED.
Outside his practice work, Ben teaches on the architecture course at the University of Liverpool, and is currently working on developing better housing models, using custom build as a platform for involving future occupiers in the design process for volume housing, to provide improved space standards, excellent environmental performance and better value.
